Harbert Corporation was one of the largest construction companies in the world with offices worldwide. The company's domestic construction arm was sold in the early 1990s to a division of Birmingham-based Raytheon Engineers & Constructors. This was followed by the company selling its largest and most prominent division, its international construction arm Harbert International, to John's brother Bill L. Harbert.
